Grammatical gender Clymenides is feminine, although Mesnil later added masculine-ending species names. Genus -ides names are treated as masculine, unless the original author treated them as feminine, and Claparède, 1863 used the feminine ending to the adjective sulphureus -a -um, thus the genus is feminine.
