Etymology Unstated. Southward has no comment on the formation of the name 'major', but the tube diameter of Sclerolinum major is thicker than that of S. minor, described in the same work. Both are thin. The Latin adjective for large would be magnus -a -um, and 'major' is the comparative form. [details]
