Editor's comment There is no such name as "Sabella argus", and the few usages of it are mistakes by authors. It originated in a usage in a sentence by Johansson (1926) of an undocumented name, "Sabella argus". This usage was detected and further researched by editor Harry ten Hove. Johansson writes: "Dasychone argus, von Dalyell schon im Jahre 1853 als Sabella argus beschrieben. Als Kölliker sie aufs neue 1858 erwähnte, benannte er sie Branchiomma dalyelli. [Dasychone argus, already described by Dalyell as Sabella argus in the year 1853. When Kölliker mentioned the species again in 1858, he named it Branchiomma dalyelli]. However, the name is not in Dalyell and not in Kölliker. The next year after Johansson's usage appeared this non-existent "Sabella argus" combination was re-used by Benham (Terra Nova, 1927 p. 137, footnote), where he repeats Johansson's wrong information, and it was included as a past combination by Licciano & Giangrande (2008:385) where "Sabella argus Sars" is in the synonymy of Branchiomma bombyx. However, Sars (1862) never uses "Sabella argus". The only connection with genus Sabella is that his new species, Dasychone argus, has Sars' (misidentifications) of Sabella ventilabrum and Sabella lucullana in its synonymy. Sars is just referring his earlier usages to his new species in Dasychone. [details]
