Homonymy Megalomma vigilans (Claparède, 1869) is a homonym of Megalomma vigilans (Westwood, 1842) in Coleoptera. This homonymy was detected by Gil & Nishi (2017: 143), but as the two genera names are distinct, and in this case in different phyla, the homonymy is ignored according to ICZN Article 57.8.1. "Homonymy between identical species-group names in combination (originally or subsequently) with homonymous generic names having the same spelling but established for different nominal genera [Art. 53.2] is to be disregarded." Obviously normally correction of the generic homonymy resolves the issue as one genus has a new name, but in this case Megalomma vigilans is of uncertain placement and has not been recombined.
