Diagnosis Authors: "Unpaired, simple eyespots present, randomly arranged along radiolar lateral margins. Radioles supported by six rows of vacuolated cells near base. Etymology The name "cupoculata" refers "to the conspicuous cup-shaped radiolar eyes arranged along the outer margins of the radioles" (authors). The closest Latin word to the first part is 'Cupa', but this means cask rather than cup. It is combined with Latin adjective 'oculatus -a -um', meaning furnished with eyes. [details]
Spelling As Sabellomma is a neuter genus, and the species-group name is a descriptive adjective, the latter should be 'cupoculatum' for mandatory gender agreement. [details]
