Editor's comment Fiege & Sun decided, on the basis of verticil variation within a single specimen, that H. centrospina Wu & Chen, 1981 is a junior synonym [details]
Etymology no derivation given, but one of several Hydroides names combined with variants of '-spinosa', this one indicating long operculum spines. [details]
Grammatical gender Original as 'longispinosa' feminine adjective but may be seen (incorrectly) in literature with masculine spelling 'longispinosus' [details]
Type locality Koniya, Amami-Oshima, Amami Islands, Southern Japan.
