Description: Colour in life: mostly agrees with Sloan et al. 1979 but some lateral interradial areas red-brown and bands of this colour on the arms may extend over three segments (Humphreys, 1981). Description: arm length to 5 cm, disc diameter to 1.5 cm. Disc grey, with some marginal plates lacking granules; arms banded with red. In Tortonese (1980): disc with granules; 8-10 oral papillae each side; 11 arm spines, less than half the segment length; two tentacle scales, the outer one smaller.
Habitat: shallow rubble areas.
General distribution: from the Red Sea to Philippines (Tortonese, 1980); WIO, Red Sea to W Pacific (Richmond, 1998).
Also distributed in Persian Gulf, W India, Pakistan, Ceylon, East Indies and Philippine (Clark & Rowe, 1971). [details]
Type locality: Type locality: Querimba, Northern Mozambique.
