Abstract
The preliminary identification of around 155 species of Brachyura (Portunidae excl.) collected in the Philippines waters by the MUSORSTOM Expedition gives a representative sampling of the fauna of the prospected area. Species which were poorly known and only recorded from the Indian Ocean or from the Seas around Japan are living there with some others only known from the Philippines waters. Several species were previously known only by the type material. Three forms of Xanthidae are new: Paramedaeus planifrons globosus ssp, nov., Crosnierius carinatus gen, nov., sp. nov., Neoxanthias michelae sp. nov. Some other forms are probably representative of new species: at least one species of Pisidae and one of Retroplumidae, that last family being particularly well represented in the collection (four species).
