Present Inaccurate Introduced: alien Containing type locality
From editor or global species database
Spelling In the original description of Firoloida demarestia, Lesueur did not give an etymology, but it is obvious that the species was named after Anselme Desmarest (1784-1838), a French zoologist who was his contemporary (and the author of, among others, the genus name Rissoa). Technically, the spelling desmarestia is an incorrect subsequent spelling. However, subsequent authors have consistently treated demarestia as an incorrect original spelling, and under ICZN Art. 33.3.1 the spelling desmarestia is to be maintained.
