Knipowitsch, 1885-1925). Narodnii Komissariat Zemledeliya RSFSR, Moscow. pp 315-329) gave a list of crustaceans from the Caspian Sea in which he added one new genus, Cletodina, with two new species, Cletodina knipowitschi and Cl. dubia. However, Cletodina and its two species were not described, and no type species was assigned to Cletodina. Borutzky (1926) (Copepoda-Harpacticoida basseina r. Volgi. Copepoda-Harpacticoida des Wolga Bassins. Russiskii Gidrobiologicheskii Zhurnal, Saratov. 5:210-218) suggested that Sars' undescribed genus Cletodina might be identical with Limnocletodes. Smirnov (1933) (Notiz über Limnocletodes behningi Borutzky. Zoologischer Anzeiger 102(5-6):118-129) had the opportunity to inspect Sars' original material of the undescribed Cl. knipowitschi and Cl. dubia kept in the Zoological Museum of the Academy of Sciences of the former USSR, and found that Cl. dubia is identical to Limnocletodes behningi, but he believed that Cl. knipowitschi does not belong to Limnocletodes and that the genus name Cletodina should be kept for that species. Lang (1948: 1321) (Monographie der Harpacticiden) treated Cletodina as synonym of Limnocletodes but in his list of synonyms he wrote "Cletodina n. g., Sars 1927a, S. 328 (part.?)", probably suggesting that he was not certain about the belonging of Cl. knipowitschi in Limnocletodes. However, a few lines below he gave a list of the species of Limnocletodes where he included both Cl. knipowitschi and Cl. dubia. [details]
