Spelling An earlier editor stated that "Syllides is a male latin name, thus the correct ending for the specific names whose etymology refers to an adjective is -us and not -a (latin female ending)." It is assumed this person meant a masculine name as assigned in the Code for -ides endings rather than that Syllides was a male personal name, which it doesn't appear to be. Ehlers (1897: 45) may have been the first to use the Syllides longocirratus spelling for a record from 'Uschuaia' (Ushuaia) Terra del Fuego, Argentina.
