Validity The WoRMS SC is aware that there is two conflicting opinions regarding the genera within the family Zosteraceae: either 2 (Zostera & Phyllospadix) or 4 (Zostera, Phyllospadix, Heterozostera and Nanozostera) valid genera. The SC cannot settle on the arguments or differences in opinion on which names are necessarily valid, and has decided to leave the status as-is (2 valid genera), until more and clear arguments are brought to this discussion.
