Nomenclature The type (preserved in NHMUK, d'Orbigny coll., and only specimen known) of this species is extremely worn and eroded, and is considered unidentifiable. Identity opinions differ between M. varia (= M. mesal) and M. brevialis. The specimen's condition prohibits any conclusive proof. It is therefore here considered a taxon inquirenda, with reference to the remark of E. A. Smith, 1915. [details]
