Etymology Not stated. However, Nephtys caecoides appears to be named in reference to similarity to the European Nephtys caeca (Fabricius, 1780) which (as Hartman recorded in her synonymy) Johnson and also Treadwell had recorded previously as that species (spelling as coeca/caeca) from California. An '-oides' Latin suffix indicates similarity, so here a Californian species was named as similar to but distinct from a European one. [details]
