Description A large, sluggish bottom shark sometimes occurring in shallow water but primarily a deepwater species. Found on the continental and insular shelves and upper slopes. Feeds on smaller spiny dogfish, bony fishes (ling, catfish, and lizardfish), and crabs. Ovoviviparous with 15 to 24 young in a litter. May breed in April in Indian waters. Never recorded as attacking people. Utilized for fishmeal and liver oil. [details]
