Plumage: above plain brown below white with brown mottling on breast; head and neck white mottled brown; brrown crown, white forehead; brown eye patch; breeding male with entire upperparts dark brown; breast band chestnut boardered on lower edge with dark brown to black; dark brown eye patch and very distinct white superciliary stripe; breeding female like male but with brown breast band.. Immature like adult but with buff edges to feathers of back. Bare parts: iris dark brown; bill black; feet and legs green or greenish. Habitat: rare on coast.
