(Kinberg, 1858, translation) Body 27 mm long, 15 mm wide, greater in height than in the others, with dense tomentose tela and a light covering; forty segments, nine of which lack the posterior minute elytra. Head lobe depressed. Eyes convex, hemispherical, with a double pigment spot on each side. "Tentacle, with the shortest basal part, shorter than the cephalic lobe, slender and below the apex linear, acute, slightly thickened. Facial tubercle compressed, marked with rare warts. Pharynx external margin provided with large foliaceous papillae and armed with strong cartilaginous processes, transverse, cristatis, arcuate, acute, slightly elevated. Palpi arising under the cephalic lobe, strong. Tentacular cirri gradually acuminate, much exceeding the tentacle, unequal in length, the largest adjacent setae barely exceeding. Oral cirri slightly longer than the ventral ones. Dorsal feet depressed, tending upwards and outwards, with short spines, slightly euryvate, attenuated, with hooked apex. Spelling Aphrodita alta Kinberg (1856) from Brazil does exist and is not a spelling error for Aphrodita talpa Quatrefages from New Zealand [details]

Synonymy Fauvel & Rullier (1957) as [genus misspelling] Aphrodite alta included Aphrodita talpa and Aphrodita obtecta in their synonymy for Aphrodita alta, apparently based on an earlier examination of Aphrodita talpa in the Paris museum. Probably this synonymy has no validity as the occurrences are not geographically adjacent. [details]
