Classification: Originally established as a suborder containing the families Neritidae, Trochidae, Haliotidae, and Fissurellidae. Riphidoglossa and Raphidoglossa [both Gray (1856: 100-101)] are incorrect subsequent spellings (but Raphidoglossa Macdonald, 1880 is a different name). These taxa are currently distributed between Neritimorpha and Vetigastropoda, but the word "rhipidiglossate" is currently used to designate the type of radula commonly found in the Vetigastropoda.
