Type locality Sargasso Sea, Atlantic Ocean (gazetteer estimate 27.0°, -39.0°): "Mare atlanticum, summa aqua; in intinere Eugenie 21 Maji 1853 observata" (Kinberg, 1866: 243). According to Skogman (1855: 198), the frigate HSwMS Eugenie was located in the Sargasso Sea from the 20th to the 23rd May 1853, entering it at the coordinates 21.0°, -37.0°, and leaving at 34.0°, -41.0°. The geolocation was thus estimated to be about 27.0°, -39.0°. [details]

Diagnosis Original diagnosis by Kinberg (1866: 243): "A. (?) splendida n. Corpus longum segmentis anterioribus pharyngo porrecto brevibus; oculi permagni rubri, pupilla flavido-rubra; pharynx exsertilis oculis duplo longior, papillis binis oppositis elongatis et 24 brevibus; pedes acuminati, aciculis singulis apices penetrantibus; glandulae segmentorum supra, pone et juxta bases pedum sitae, tuberculiformes, sublobatae, magnae."
