Nomenclature Kobayashi 1973 is an unpublished thesis with the respect to the code, so the name is not available from that publication. And it is only in 1994 that Miya named it, but changed the name in honour of Kobayashi who first recognized the species. The name Cyclothone sumiae has been used a few times between 1973 and 1994, or specimens were referred to an unnamed species (see Miya 1994).
