Nomenclature Mentioned as a name 'infundibulum' in a footnote in Renier (Tavole ... Conchiglie, 1804: xiii), and as Sabella gelatinosa, but not mentioned by the name 'infundibulum' in Renier (Prospetto della Classe dei Vermi, 1804), where it is Terebella buccina (italian Terebella trombetta). Not published until 1847, again as Terebella infundibulum. According to Muir & Petersen (2013) "Meneghini, 1847 [the editor of Renier, 1847] says that Terebella infundibulum is synonymous with Sabella gelatinosa Renier, [1804a p. 13], Terebella buccina Renier, [1804b p. 19] and Tuba divisa Renier, [1807, Tav. VI – misquoted as Tav. VII]. Renier often named his species in Latin, Italian and French, which may explain why Meneghini, 1847, used the name Tuba (Terebella) infundibulum on page 49 and the names Terebella infundibulum and Tuba divisa on page 51, for the same species of polychaete" [details]
