Etymology Not stated by the authors, the specific epithet reducta is a Latin word meaning 'reduced', and refers presumably to the small size of the species and its simplified and regressed morphology when compared with other species of the genus: "De très petite taille, cette espèce ne dépasse guère 0,3 mm de largeur du corps [...] La petite taille de H. reducta sp. n., et la morphologie simplifiée, voire régressée de cette espèce, sont également remarquables" (Laubier et al., 1974: 246-248). [details]
