Themisto gaudichaudi can range into middle to low latitudes along South America and Africa carried by cold northbound coastal currents, and northward to the Antarctic Convergence inhabiting mainly cold Antarctic Intermediate Water. Animals cited for the northern hemisphere may belong to a separate species: T. compressa (see Scneppenheim & Weigmann-Haas, 1986) [details]
