Synonymy Iredale (1915b) has demonstrated that there is no reason to prefer the name Lutraria magna (Da Costa, 1778) above the later described Lutraria oblonga (Gmelin, 1791).Turton (1819, Conch. Dict., p. 86) and later Lamy (1917, p. 373 in footnote) noted that the figure for Chama magna in Da Costa (1778) is Lutraria oblonga, but that descriptions and references relate to L. lutraria (Linnaeus, 1758).
