Distribution H. hectica has a wide range and is known throughout the Indian Ocean into the Central Pacific, from E Africa to the Polynesian and Hawaiian Islands, recorded from the intertidal zone to depths not deeper than 10 m. Probably not present in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, nor on the shores of the Horn of Africa. [details]
