Description A large, thin, globose shell, up to 12 cm, with short spire and deep suture. Pale brown with lighter and darker streaks and a large, white aperture. Habitat: in sand. Distribution: W Indian Ocean to W Pacific Ocean. (Richmond, 1997). [details]

Taxonomy Vredenburg (1919:145) used the combination Dolium (Eudolium) fasciatum (Martini, 1777) for the species currently referred to as Tonna sulcosa (Born, 1778), partially also for a specimen of Tonna canaliculata (Linnaeus, 1758) [details]
Taxonomy Wood (1825:103) refers to this species as Buccinum galea Linnaeus, 1758.
Bruguière (1789) and Dillwyn (1817:582) refer to this species as Buccinum olearium Linnaeus, 1758. [details]
