Also distributed in W India, Pakistan, Maldive area, Ceylon, Bay of Bengal, East Indies, north Australia, Philippine, China, south Japan, South Pacific IS. and Hawaiian Is. (Clark & Rowe, 1971).; India (Sastry, 1996); Australia (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
Widely distributed in the tropical Indo-Pacific; from the Red Sea to Hawaii (Tortonese, 1980); tropical, Indo-west-central Pacific Ocean, shallow waters (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
Ecology: benthic, inshore, detritus feeder, deposit feeder H. martensii in Pearson, 1910. [details]
