Taxonomy Type species of genera Cephalodella Bory de St. Vincent, 1826 and Diglena Ehrenberg, 1830 (the latter is an invalid synonym of the former)._x000d_
?Plagiognatha hyptopus (Ehrenberg) after Dujardin (1841); ?Encentrum wiszniewskii Wulfert after Bertani, Segers & Rosetti, 2011_x000d_
not C. catellina (Müller) after Wiszniewski (1934)[=C. wiszniewskii Edmondson & Hutchinson]; Harring & Myers (1924)[=C. myersi Wiszniewski]; Altindag (2000)[=C. gibba (Ehrenberg)?]; Yang & Min (2023)[= C. segersi De Smet]._x000d_
Wiszniewski's (1934) (op. cit.) record of C. catellina (Müller) is here tentatively included with C. wiszniewskii Edmondson & Hutchinson, but see comments there (species inquirenda?)._x000d_
Bertani et al. (2011)present figures of trophi and habitus of what was identified as Encentrum wiszniewski Wulfert. While the correct identification can be confirmed for the trophus (fig.2H), fig.1I clearly does not show E. wiszniewskii, but most likely a species from the Cephalodella catellina - species complex._x000d_
The taxonomic status of C. myersi Wiszniewski relative to C. catellina (Müller) requires further scrutiny. Harring & Myers' figure of C. catellina, with significantly deviating shape of body and toes, clearly argue against conspecificity with C. catellina, but also see De Smet (1998)for a dsicussion of the issue._x000d_
As can be judged from recent studies in central and southeastern Asia (Jersabek & Bolortsetseg, 2010; Jersabek unpubl.), the closely related species Cephalodella segersi De Smet seems to be widespread in palaearctic regions. It must therefore be assumed that numerous earlier records under the name C. catellina (Müller) actually concern C. segersi. [details]
