Nomenclature The name Pirena has for a long time been credited to Lamarck, 1822 [Histoire naturelle des animaux sans vertèbres, 6(2): 169], with Pirena terebralis Lamarck, 1822 [substitute name for Strombus ater Linnaeus, 1758], by SD, Children, 1823 [Quarterly Journal of Science, Literature and the Arts, 15: 244], which made Pirena a synonym of Faunus.
