Spelling Bieler (1995, Mémoires du Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, 167: 599) has argued that Promathildia should be treated as an incorrect original spelling of Promathilda. [details]
Type species Andreae recognized two subgroups if Promathildia, which he did not name, and altogether included 5 species in the genus. Koken [1889, Neues Jahrbuch für Mineralogue, Geologie und Palaeontologie, Beilage Bd 6: 458-459] repeated Andreae's text, and cited Turritella binaria Hébert & Eudes-Deslongchamps, 1860 [an originally included species] as type of one of the subgroups; this does not constitute a valid type species fixation. Cossmann [1912, Essais de paléoconchologie comparée, 9: 4] cited Cerithium bisertum Münster, 1841, as type, but this was not an originally included species. While fixing Mathilda janeti as type, Gründel & Nützel also noticed that Andreae had misidentified Turritella binaria, and that he probably had before him an undescribed species of Angulathilda.
