Comparison Simplexastraea is distinguished from Carolastraea mainly by the structure of the wall (double layer with invaginations in the latter) [details]

Description Phaceloid corallum with corallites oval in section. Increase intramural, fissiparous , generally, at the ends of the longer axis. Radial elements are compact septa s.s., mostly attenuated, the cardinal septum the longest of all and the remaining septa differentiated in length in two size orders. No pali. Microstructure unknown. Bilateral symmetry marked all along the growth. No columella. Endotheca made of tabulae. No synapticulae. Pachythecal wall [details]

Remark Only one nominal species described up to now. The assignation of the ? Carolastraea of Melnikova et Roniewicz 1976 from the Callovian of Pamir to Simplexastraea is still doubtful [details]

Status The genus was placed with a question mark in the Amphiastreidae by Stolarski and Russo (2001) and in a “incertae family” by Kolodziej (2003) [details]
