Status Hanley (1991: 1053) refers the subspecies to genus Harmothoe in his abstract but this action is not present in the main text, thus unconfirmed as to basis, and not actually used as a new combination. Earlier Augener (1927) had referred the species to Malmgrenia but Hanley (1987), assuming Malmgrenia was invalid, later referred it to Harmothoe as H. sp., apparently after consultation with Pettibone. The original variety (subspecies) name was not continued, apparently as Pettibone was intending to assign the taxon to a new genus. [details]
