Status Since Morrow & Cárdenas' (2015) revision of the higher taxa of the Demospongiae, Spirophorida Bergquist & Hogg, 1969 (sensu Hooper & Van Soest, 2002) is recognized as a suborder of the order Tetractinellida, Spirophorina, with the same content as previously, but with desma-bearing families added.
