Validity It is unclear from Czerniavsky’s text where exactly this forma was collected, presumably also in Crimea, but this is not a problem because the combination is invalid on account of having four names (ICZN art. 45.5). If it would have been valid the name would have been a junior secondary homonym of Protoschmidtia transitans Czerniavsky, 1880: 97 (currently Haliclona transitans, cf. Ereskovsky et al. 2016). However, invalid names do not enter into homonymy (ICZN art. 54.1). Van Soest (2024: 45) proposed to consider this material to be also referable to Haliclona palmata subsp. pontuseuxiniensis nom.nov. as it is a forma of Reniera palmata var. taurica, currently H.p.pontuseuxiniensis[details]
