Taxonomy The variety was not treated by Van Soest (2024), but it is likely a member of the Black Sea subspecies Haliclona palmata subsp. pontuseuxinensis Van Soest, 2024. Czerniavsky's combination is a junior secondary homonym of Schmidtia intermedia var. horhippiana Czerniavsky, but the homonymy is removed because the two varieties are not currently assigned to the same genus (ICZN art. 59.2), respectively Haliclona and Petrosia.
