Subgenus Hooper (1996) assigned this species to subgenus Axosuberites (as Axociella), but Lévi described and illustrated the presence of echinating acanthostyles. Axosuberites is defined as lacking these spicules, so Clathria parva does not fit. It is here assigned to Clathria (Clathria). [details]
