Taxonomy Gray's 'description' is based on Bowerbank's (1864: 252, fig. 151) designated as Desmacidon sp. of unknown origin and shape. Bowerbank's figure 151 does not appear to conform to a bipocilla of Iophon., but rather to a birotulate of Iotrochota or similar. Both genus and species are thus Poecilosclerida incertae sedis. Lacking shape, habitat and locality, this taxon is unrecognizable and assignment to the synonymy of Iophon as many authors have done is unwarranted. [details]
