Authority Bowerbank (1869) assigned authorship to Valenciennes, 1799, who labeled a specimen in the Paris Museum (at that time the 'Jardin des Plantes') as Iphiteon panicea, but no description of this name combination has been published before Bowerbank discovered and described this material. The name Iphiteon Valenciennes is a nomen nudum and Bowerbank's use of the name for genus and species Iphiteon panicea makes him the author of the valid name. [details]
