The transit of particles during nutrition of the freshwater sponge Ephydatia fluviatilis has been studied by feeding sponges with calibrated polystyrene latex beads [Diam. 0, 794 ?m). Beads have been added to the culture medium. After incubation times spreading from 5 minutes to 12 hours. sponges have been fixed for further ultrastructural studies. The results show that not only choanocytes and archaeocytes, but also pinacocytes manifest a phagocytic activity.
