Identification Esper described what he thought was Pallas' Spongia membranosa (accepted as Dendrilla membranosa) under two different names, Spongia membranosa and Spongia membranacea, both depicted in his plates in two different volumes. Especially the plate of the latter, resembles Iotrochota rather than Dendrilla, so it is propsed here to consider Esper's membranacea a member of that genus, and not a subsequent record of Dendrilla membranosa. However, the identity of this Iotrochota species remains doubtful in the absence of type material and redescriptions. [details]
