Pisera & Lévi (2002) provisionally placed Petromica in the Desmanthidae, with no solid arguments. Sequences so far from two different markers (COI, 18S) are unambiguous so we are quite sure that Petromica species should be moved. See more arguments in Díaz et al. (2025). We think there are enough arguments to move Petromica from the Desmanthidae where it doesn’t belong (note: Díaz et al. have Desmanthus species in their trees, they are clearly in the Bubarida).
