Habitat In mangroves, in muddy sand, 0.1-0.5 m deep, temperature between 29º-34ºC, salinity 27-38‰, 0.34-0.84% organic carbon. In seagrass beds, in sandy mud, 0.5-0.95 m deep, temperature between 29-29.6ºC, salinity 19.1-34.5‰. [details]
Neotype Tovar-Hernández et al. (2008) designated a neotype for Syllis mexicana (Rioja, 1960), with base on material from the type locality of the species, the Términos Lagoon (Campeche, Mexico). [details]
