Etymology The specific epithet guttata is the feminine of the Latin adjective guttatus, meaning 'spotted' or 'speckled', and refers presumably to the presence of one to two black spots in the dorsum of some segments of the middle region of the body, forming two irregular longitudinal rows: ''Dans la région moyenne, chaque segment porte une ou deux taches noires de manière à constituer sur le dos deux rangées longitudinales irregulières. Ces taches n'existent que sur une douzaine de segments environ.'' (Claparède, 1868: 475). [details]
