Status Reish (1954: 101) stated "since Blanchard's types are non-existent and his description inadequate, it is herein considered as a species inquirenda." Otherwise he considered it might be a senior synonym of Nereis grubei. Soli-Weiss et al (2004: S8) list a specimen as 'type?' but the provenance of the specimen would need investigating [details]
Synonymy See also Thoosa gayi (Blanchard), sensu Kinberg, 1865, which appears to be a subsequent usage of Nereis gayi in new combination. The Thoosa gayi specimen was apparently examined by Reish (1954) [details]From other sources
