Etymology authors: Nereis tricirrata is named for "the three anal cirri present on the pygidium, one on the mid-dorsal and one on each of the ventro-lateral sides." [Editor: this is likely to be abnormal to the holotype specimen, and related to the regeneration (photographed) occurring after loss of the tail end. Pygidium nature, if present, for the single paratype is unstated] [details]
