Status McIntosh (1915) created the combination Loimia gigantea (Montagu) for his own specimens collected from Devon. However, later McIntosh (1922) changes his prior id by including his earlier Devon specimens under Loimia montagui, a new name he creates for Terebella constrictor. It is not known why he creates this new name, but what is implied is that his earlier placement of his material as Loimia gigantea is being changed to match what was Terebella constrictor Montagu. There is no Loimia gigantea in McIntosh (1922) and he also places the original name of Terebella gigantea of Montagu as an Amphitrite as Amphitrite gigantea (Montagu). Possibly McIntosh was wrong with his later placements, but without material to examine it is difficult to know.
The most recent comments on the status of the combination Loimia gigantea have been made by Martin et al (2022) who in discussion treat it as a valid species and regard Loimia ramzega Lavesque et al, 2017 from Brittany as its junior synonym. They do not present a formal synonymy or taxon description for Loimia gigantea [details]
