The specific epithet lamellicincta is a New Latin word composed by Latin prefix lamelli-, meaning 'thin plate or layer', and the Latin noun cincta (masculine: cinctus), meaning 'girdle' or 'belt', and presumably refers to the long interramal lamella of the middle and posterior segments that characterizes the species.
