Etymology Not stated. The generic name if formed by the name of the closely related genus Polydora Bosc, 1802, followed by the suffix -ella, feminine of the Latin suffix -ellus and normally added to a noun to form a diminuitive of that noun, and presumably refers to the smaller size of the type species of the genus, Polydorella prolifera Augener, 1914 in relation to species of Polydora.
