Etymology The name of the genus derives from the combination of the Latin word brachy, meaning short, with Syllis, and makes reference to the short body of the type species of the genus, Brachysyllis japonica. [details]
Identification Aguado & San Martín (2008) provide a dichotomic key for the species of the genus. [details]
Taxonomy The genus Brachysyllis Imajima & Hartman, 1964 was synonymized with Dioplosyllis Gidholm, 1962 by Imajima (1966), but was later considered to be valid by Aguado & San Martín (2008). [details]
