Diagnosis Original diagnosis by Claparède (1870: 480): ''Le genre Vanadis est caractérisé par l'existence d'un appendice cirriforme [...] à l'extrémité des pieds, et par l'absence de denticules durs à la trompe.'' [details]
Etymology The generic name Vanadis is one of the numerous names of Freyja (meaning ''(the) Lady'' in Old Norse), a goddess associated with love, sex, beauty, fertility, gold, war, death and sorcery in the Norse mythology: ''L'un des noms de Freia, la Vénus scandinave'' (Claparède, 1870: 480, footnote).
